The landscape paintings of Susan G. Scott come from exploring the stream that runs beside her woodland studio in Chelsea, Vermont. Each summer she sketches ankle-deep in water to convey the abstract privacy and intricacy of this natural space. In the winter months, she paints in her Montreal studio from these watercolor studies. Scott’s large, oil on canvas paintings, Streams of Light, resemble the delicate open aesthetic of Asian watercolors, allowing the white of the canvas to convey light and space, along with her rich shades of undulating color.

Susan G. Scott, RCA, is a Canadian-American artist known for contemporary figurative painting, elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) in 2013. She has been in many one person and group shows, including three solo exhibitions that toured Canada: Susan G. Scott: Works from 1974 to 1983; Blindman’s Buff (1988-1991), and Les enfants terribles (2003-2005). Her work is in the permanent collections of Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Nickle Arts Museum, Musée d’ art contemporain de Montréal, and Collection du Fonds régional d’art contemporain d’île-de-France.
